Call for applications to the Memory of the World Register of Latin America and the Caribbean 2025

The Regional Committee of UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean (MoWLAC) invites institutions, communities and individuals who manage and safeguard bibliographic and documentary heritage to incorporate their documents and documentary sets into the Regional Memory of the World Register.
The purpose of the call is to incorporate into the "Memory of the World Register of Latin America and the Caribbean", the document or documentary set, of an archival, bibliographic or audiovisual nature, existing in countries of the Region, with relevance for the collective memory of Latin American and Caribbean society. In addition, the inscriptions in the Regional Register are part of the "Observatory and risk map", a project that provides information on the documentary heritage in the region with regard to its preservation, political or social risks, natural disasters, among others.
We invite you to submit proposals to the Memory of the World, with records that account for the features of the history and evolution of Latin America and the Caribbean, to join those that the Regional Committee has recognized in previous years in archives, libraries or museums and, that document milestones, processes and memories with the following characteristics:
- migratory flows;
- cultural, personal, artistic, scientific or commercial exchanges;
- the struggle for land and geopolitical changes;
- the colonial past;
- the development of native populations or languages;
- the richness of natural resources, their biodiversity and their endemic species;
- the origin and development of dictatorships in the twentieth century; and
- the struggle for human rights.
We call for a broad record of the cultural, social and historical processes interwoven through our societies.
The document or documentary set, of an archival or bibliographic nature, can be text-based (manuscript or printed), audiovisual (film, video, sound record), iconographic (photography, print, design) or cartographic, on paper or other material supports. They also could be digital and electronic documents and publications.
The conditions for participation and qualification of the applications candidatures are contained in the "Regulations for applications to the Memory of the World Register of Latin America and the Caribbean'' as well as its respective Application Form. All documents and forms are available on the MoWLAC website.
The deadline for the submission of applications is 15 August 2025 at 23.59 hours, UTC-5 (Ecuador)
The final results of the evaluation will be published after the XXIII Annual Meeting of the MoWLAC Committee and will be available on the MoWLAC website.
