E-Training on Learning for Empathy - Phase 2

A series of E-Training on Learning for Empathy under the Phase 2 of Learning for Empathy Project

UNESCO Office Jakarta, in collaboration with Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), is organizing a series of E-Training on Learning for Empathy under the Phase 2 of Learning for Empathy Project for two pilot schools in East Java, Indonesia: Public Junior High School 3 (SMPN 3) Surabaya and Public Madrassa School 17 (MTsN 17) Jombang.  

The opening session was conducting on 8 September 2020 with participation of 70 teachers from the pilot schools as well as the trainers from UNJ and Labschool Jakarta. In her opening remarks, Dr Mee Young Choi, the Head of Education Unit of UNESCO Office Jakarta, on behalf of UNESCO appreciated the supports provided by the Office of Education, Surabaya City, and the Regional Office of Ministry of Religious Affairs of East Java Province, and the cooperation given by the two pilot schools in implementing the Learning for Empathy Project.

In this occasion, Head Section of Teachers and Educators Surabaya City Office of Education, Mrs Mamik Suparmi, expressed her gratitude for UNESCO's efforts in providing training for the teachers and hoping that the activity can continue since character education thro1ugh learning for empathy is not only a project but also a sustainable effort.

The series of E-Training on Learning for Empathy will be held on 8-10 September 2020 and 14-16 September 2020 through Zoom and working groups of teachers. The training is part of the Project 鈥淟earning for Empathy鈥 supported by The Government of Japan. The Project aims to create enabling conditions for education professionals, specifically teachers, to strengthen students' resilience to discriminatory and violent narratives and address the challenges in making learning meaningful, motivating, and empowering.
