Climate change and environmental degradation are among the biggest challenges of our times, threatening community livelihoods and both biological and cultural diversities. Additionally, heritage, in all its dimensions, is an important asset for economic development, by attracting investments and ensuring green, locally based, stable and decent jobs. Hazards such as global warming, uncontrolled consumption patterns and the devastation of the natural conditions of the territories where heritage sites are located, constitute a threat to the necessary balance between biological and cultural diversity for sustainable development.
