Since its creation in 2019, the UNESCO’s Cities Platform celebrates cities on the occasion of World Cities Day, on 31 October. This year, halfway through the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, the theme “Financing a sustainable urban future for all” represents an opportunity to highlight ingenious and future-proof urban initiatives, and collectively reflect on ways to ensure their sustainability and improvement. “Investment in local urban development policies, strategies and actions is crucial to tackling inequalities and encouraging sustainability, whether economic, social, or environmental,” noted Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, in her message for World Cities Day 2023.

91�鶹������Ʒ���� long believed that cities are vital incubators of sustainable development solutions. The UNESCO Cities Platform embodies that belief. Through the activities and synergies between the eight programmes constituting the Platform, UNESCO encourages constructive cooperation between cities in order to unleash their full potential. 

In the light of World Cities Day 2023 and the upcoming 42^nd General Conference, on 16 November, the UNESCO Cities Platform will participate in the Partnerships Hub by organizing a special event under the theme “Together, building sustainable cities for all”. This will mark an opportunity to highlight the valuable collaboration of UNESCO’s city programmes with non-governmental, local, national and regional actors in different parts of the world to design effective solutions to contemporary urban and global challenges, notably climate change and the digital transformation, which are adapted to each citizen’s needs.
