Siemens Stiftung, partner of UNESCO's Global Skills Academy

Established as an independent nonprofit foundation by Siemens AG in 2008, Siemens Stiftung has been implementing international projects that contribute to sustainable social development. By working with partners from the fields of Education, Social Entrepreneurship, and Arts & Culture, Siemens Stiftung focuses on three thematic areas: Access to Essential Services, Connected Societies, and Climate & Sustainability. 

Having projects and networks centering around Africa, Europe, and Latin America, Siemens Stiftung aims to reinforce collective learning and deliver hands-on, local-based high-quality STEM education leading to a sustainable future. Since 2010, Siemens Stiftung has trained 22.000 teachers and reached 1 million students in STEM education and 21st Century Skills.

The training course in detail

The OER portals provide both educators and learners with around 5300 Open Educational Resources (OER) for STEM lessons (math, biology, computer science, physics, chemistry and engineering). Specifically, English and German materials are to be found on the Media Portal and Spanish materials on the Latin American portal CREA.

Partnering with a Kenyan social enterprise WeTu (founded by Siemens Stiftung in 2019), WeLearn is a face-to-face, instructor-led, five-week vocational orientation course green economy.  The program is structured in renewable energy (1 week), digital literacy (1 week), life skills (1 week), site visit WeTu hubs (1 week) & attendance of courses at local TVET college (1 week). An assessment is given after each session. Furthermore, technical experiments and hands-on projects on renewable energy & water are important elements of the program.
