Technovation
Technovation runs the world’s largest free tech entrepreneurship competition for young women up to age 18 through which teams of girls work with mentors to create groundbreaking technology solutions [mobile or web apps] that tackle real-world problems aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Technovation’s objective is to empower girls and close the gender gap in STEM, in which women represent less than 30% of the STEM workforce globally [WEF, 2023], inhibiting women’s career opportunities and exacerbating economic disparities.
Technovation empowers girls and young women to become leaders, technology innovators and real-world problem solvers. They are committed to creating opportunities for girls to reach their full potential by equipping them with tech education, an entrepreneurial mindset, future-ready skills and the agency to create solutions for all people and the planet.
They work with over 100 local partners in 50+ countries to engage girls in the world’s largest tech entrepreneurship competition for girls in which teams of girls work with volunteer mentors to learn AI, coding, and entrepreneurship and create technology to solve a problem aligned with the UN SDGs.
The learning experience builds young women's digital [coding and AI], transferable [problem-solving, communication, teamwork], and entrepreneurial skills along with their self-efficacy as well as their sense of belonging and interest in STEM.
Over the past 18 years, Technovation has brought their cutting-edge STEM curriculum and programs to over 400,000 girls, families, and volunteers in over 120 countries around the world.

A team is formed between 1 to 5 young females with the support of a mentor either locally or online via the Technovation platform. Together, they are supposed to solve a real-world problem contributing to one of the SDGs by using the knowledge learned from the curriculum. Most teams work on the project from October-April or January-April, and all submissions are due by the end of April.
