A collaborative network to implement the guidelines
To follow up on the implementation of the Guidelines for the governance of digital platforms worldwide, UNESCO is also supporting the development of the 鈥淚4T Global Knowledge Network鈥�, a group of more than 50 international think tanks and research centers in areas of digital and data policy. The I4T Global Knowledge Network serves as a trusted interface, offering independent research and observations on the implementation of the Guidelines, and ensuring a human-right respecting and multistakeholder approach on the governance of digital platforms.

First steps of the I4T Global Knowledge Network
From 21 to 22 February 2024, exactly one year after UNESCO鈥檚 鈥淚nternet for Trust鈥� conference, 70 international research and think tank centers on digital and data policy gathered for a hybrid seminar at UNESCO Headquarters to establish a network to help regulators in UN Member States better shape and enforce their governance of digital platforms.
The seminar provided an opportunity to validate the network's operating model and its 2024 roadmap of events and publications. It also served as a , for the .
In its first year, the I4T Global Knowledge Network has focused on identifying key regulatory and related governance issues at two interrelated levels. At a general level, it aims to identify regulatory and governance issues around digital networks and platforms. More specifically, it focuses on issues of internet and platform regulation tied to the 2024 鈥渟uper elections鈥�.
In June 2024, founding and new members of the I4T Global Knowledge Network met again in Dubrovnik, Croatia during the International Conference on the Governance of Digital Platforms organized by the Croatian Agency of Electronic Media (AEM) with UNESCO support. Throughout the conference, members of the Network exchanged ideas and good practices for digital platform governance among themselves and with various stakeholders, including media regulators and private sector members. On 17 June, a side event titled 'Building partnerships of trust for better digital spaces in times of crisis' engaged numerous Network members and gathered additional stakeholders, such as regulators.
