The Al-Hadba minaret
Iraq — The rehabilitation and reconstruction of cultural heritage in Mosul rely on traditional techniques and materials as well as local expertise. With the support of the United Arab Emirates, the Al-Hadba minaret is being rebuilt identically, using 200,000 bricks made in Iraq, a technique which has not been used for centuries, and with a leaning structure, which is an extraordinarily complex technical challenge.

Afghanistan — The Minaret and Archaeological Remains of Jam, a UNESCO World Heritage property inscribed in 2002, has been affected by climate disruption and natural hazards, including flash floods, which have severely threatened its stability. This drone image was captured during a risk assessment mission in 2017, financed by the Heritage Emergency Fund. The information contributed to the development of emergency plans for the stabilization and protection of the property.
