Capacity building on safety of women journalists

UNESCO implemented a  in 2019. The project includes capacity-building measures in four countries (Senegal, Mali, Sri Lanka and India). It encompassed training for women journalists on safety-related issues and their rights, training of media managers and open dialogues and training of security forces on freedom of expression with a gender focus.

Under this initiative, UNESCO, the International Women鈥檚 Media Foundation and UNESCO鈥檚 Chair at the University of Texas at Austin's Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas launched a joint Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) called 鈥淗ow to Report Safely: A Guide for Women Journalists and their Allies鈥, now available as  also in  and .

UNESCO also published a set of practical guidelines on the safety of women journalists:  and  with the Thomson Reuters Foundation and the International Women鈥檚 Media Foundation and a legal guide on online harassment with a gender component covering 13 countries, , with the International News Safety Institute.
