World Cities Day 2022

Last update:11 May 2023
World Cities Day 2022

This year, UNESCO will celebrate the Day through a diverse programme composed of events and activities to be organized by UCP member networks and programmes. Each activity will highlight the contribution of the respective network or programme to further connect practical local actions with global development agenda. Development challenges cannot be properly addressed unless the solutions are intersectoral and crosscutting. Achieving sustainability around the world relies on the building of a shared ownership of the 2030 Agenda and its Goals, as well as the mobilization of stakeholders across all development dimensions. Thanks to its Cities Platform, UNESCO is dedicated to scale up the momentum that will accelerate local actions to better address the global challenges of our time.

Indeed, local policies, strategies and actions are crucial to the achievement of sustainable development. And cities are key enablers in this respect. They nurture solutions to promote social inclusion, mitigate climate change, and foster cultural diversity – but also much more.
