This video emphasizes indigenous education in the Tarau Paru community in Roraima (Brazil), located on the border between Brazil and Venezuela. The video shows some of the challenges faced and the successes achieved by the community regarding inclusion and the provision of quality education to Brazilian indigenous people and Venezuelan migrants of the Taurepang ethnic group enrolled at the Guilhermina Fernandes State School. The experience portrays the welcoming actions of the Tarau Paru community, which emphasizes educational aspects and respects the language, tradition and culture its members share.
The video highlights the importance of the experience based on the voices of members of the Tarau Paru community, indigenous teachers, Venezuelan migrants (student mothers) and representatives of UNESCO in Brazil and the IOM.
UNESCO in Brazil presents three videos on successful Brazilian experiences in Education for Refugees and Migrants developed within the levels of Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Education and Portuguese Language Teaching for Youth and Adults. Its objective is to disseminate best practices to reach the 2030 Education Agenda of letting no one behind by guaranteeing the right to Education in an inclusive way, according to the Sustainable Development Objective 4 (SDG 4).
