CARIRITEC

CARIRITEC is committed to addressing gender bias, increasing female enrolment, and enhancing the retention of girls in courses related to Exact Sciences, Engineering, and Computing. The initiative promotes social inclusion by disseminating knowledge, challenging stereotypes, and promoting the participation of women in STEM fields through a series of targeted activities.

At the university level, CARIRITEC organizes laboratory visits where students can observe experiments and practical applications of classroom concepts, sparking their curiosity and encouraging them to pursue studies in STEM disciplines. Lectures featuring women professionals in STEM provide female students with role models, fostering motivation and demonstrating the attainability of their professional aspirations. Additionally, the annual Semiarid Technological Week offers short courses, workshops, and roundtable discussions, enriching the academic experience of female undergraduates.

Beyond the university, CARIRITEC delivers lectures in schools to introduce students to representative women in STEM and counteract regional stereotypes. The initiative also leverages digital platforms to facilitate communication and knowledge exchange, with an active presence on Instagram (@cariritec_ufcg) to share updates, news, and insights on women¡¯s participation in STEM.

The project has led to a measurable increase in female enrolment in STEM courses at the Semiarid Sustainable Development Centre, with participating students reporting that exposure to inspiring female role models has strengthened their determination to pursue their ambitions.
