The LES GO SCIENCENT Initiative
LES GO SCIENCENT is a non-profit organization legally registered in Cameroon since 2023. It envisions a society in which women actively embrace careers STEM and apply scientific knowledge to develop innovative solutions addressing the challenges faced by the country. The organization is committed to dismantling gender stereotypes in STEM, promoting the participation of women in scientific fields, and narrowing the gender gap. In doing so, it supports women’s access to decent work, fosters inclusive economic growth, and strengthens their role in Cameroon’s innovation and industrial ecosystems.
Key activities coordinated to date include the organization of the first Forum of Women Scientists of Cameroon, which convened over 200 women in STEM to foster a culture of scientific research and collaboration and equip participants with tools for innovation. Outreach efforts have extended to school awareness campaigns, engaging more than 2,000 girls under the age of 17 in discussions on STEM careers, in partnership with five local educational institutions. These efforts have led to follow-up orientation sessions with over 20 girls convinced to pursue STEM education. In September 2023, a mentorship programme was launched, bringing together around 100 women committed to professional growth. Positive feedback from mentees has highlighted the programme’s role in enhancing confidence and resilience. Through its social media platforms, the organization also disseminates STEM-related opportunities, with tangible outcomes including access to online training for 3 women.
