Biography

David is a writer, entrepreneur and consultant interested in the interaction between culture, creativity, talent development, entrepreneurship, and the smart, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth of nations. As an entrepreneur, David founded and ran a publishing house that is a platform for the exploitation of creative potential in East Africa and continues to be a place for writers and illustrators to share their work. He is a former board member and Chair of the Kenya Publishers Association where he actively engaged government in the development of a national book policy. As a Director of the Kenya Copyright Board, he was involved in overseeing the implementation of laws and international treaties that relate to copyright and other related rights, and in promoting the growth of the cultural and creative industries. David has also been a director of several Boards at the Kenya Private Sector Alliance where he has been involved in policy dialogues with stakeholders and relevant government departments in developing enabling policies to support the growth of a vibrant SME sector. As a consultant, David has worked with major global bodies such as the Association for the Development of Education in Africa, USAID, Education Development Center, AECOM International, and Save the Children International. He is currently a doctoral researcher investigating strategies for the appropriation of economic value by creators of artistic works in Africa, in the context of digital innovation
