Shain is the founder and chairman of Sound Diplomacy Holdings, a consultancy working with cities, governments and cultural organizations. Shain has extensive experience both in the music and creative industries and public policy, incorporating investment, copyright, artists rights and entrepreneurship. Shain has defined a way to think about the value of music in cities and places as part of overall economic growth strategy. He also co-founded Union Rights, the first independent collective management organisation based in Spain and the nonprofit global research organization Center for Music Ecosystems. Shain has a PhD in cultural policy from the University of London, exploring the history of state subsidization in popular music. He recently published his first book 鈥淭his Must Be The Place: How Music Can Make Your City鈥.
