63rd IPDC Bureau to take place on 19-20 June 2019
As the one multilateral forum designed to discuss and promote media development in developing countries, the work of has a unique impact on securing a healthy, free, independent and pluralistic media environment. This impact is notably made possible thanks to . Projects are submitted by local media organizations that want to further develop their action and activities on the ground.
Since its founding, the IPDC mobilized U$120 million for over 2000 projects in more than 140 developing countries. These project cover media development areas such as the , the , conducting and Internet policy reform, and improving progress on Sustainable Development Goal 16 (which stands for peace, justice and strong institutions), target 10 (covering the and ).
Each year, the IPDC supports media development projects submitted by local organizations in developing countries worldwide. These are selected by the Bureau, based on a rigorous screening process that takes into account UNESCO’s strategic objectives and local development needs in the country.
The of a Council, gathering 39 Member States, and a Bureau. As for the Bureau, it comprises the Chairperson, three Vice-Chairpersons, a Rapporteur and three members; and it is, inter alia, responsible for project selection, approval and funds allocation.
In 2019, the IPDC has received 78 project proposals, which represents a requested amount of up to 2,200,000 euros.
