- UNESCO is calling on Chile's artists and culture workers to discuss the pandemic's effects on their work. The conversation will allow sharing experiences and emerging practices in science and the arts to forge cross-sector partnerships.
- Behind every canceled concert, every postponed festival, every delayed launch, every closed cinema, bookshop, and theatre, some countless artists and professionals have been deprived of their income. To talk about the effects of this situation, UNESCO's global movement "Resilient鈥 is holding a remote event with the culture sector鈥檚 civil society stakeholders in Chile.
ResiliArt brings together culture professionals from around the world to bring to light the state of the creative industries through national, regional, and worldwide discussions. The main reason for holding these events is the compelling need to throw light on the situation, as the severe impact of COVID-19 on the cultural value chain will have lasting effects on the creative economy. ResiliArt also sets out to ensure that these conversations, exchange of information, and awareness efforts continue even when the virus's effects have ebbed.
The event will be held on Tuesday, November 2 at 12.30 pm over Zoom and YouTube. Participants are to include the artists involved in projects selected to represent Chile at the 41st Ars Electronica Festival, one of the leading contemporary art events that celebrates the crossover between science, art, technology, the new media digital culture. The participation of these Chilean artists at the festival comes as a joint initiative between the Ministry of Cultures, Heritage, and the Arts and the Cultural Affairs Department (DIRAC) at the Ministry of Foreign Relations. The event invites attendees to rethink a sustainable society's future in terms of the links between art and science.
It is to be chaired by Sim贸n P茅rez Wilson of the Visual Arts Executive Division at the Promotion Department of the Chilean Ministry of Cultures, Heritage, and the Arts. Invited attendees include Iv谩n Flores, director of the Visual Arts Institute at the Universidad Austral de Chile School of Architecture and the Arts; Gustavo Celed贸n of the Universidad de Valpara铆so Artistic Research Centre; Juan Ferrer of the Museo del Hongo; Valentina Serrati Sisa of Prisma Arte/Ciencia/Tecnolog铆a; and Nicol谩s Spencer of the Terra Australis Ignota Research Group at the Museo de Arte Contempor谩neo de Santiago.
