The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Office in Bangkok (UNESCO Bangkok) is seeking a contractor to conceptualize artistic components and coordinate logistical arrangement for the project ‘Shared Heritage: Museums in South-East Asia
Background
The Shared Heritage project, under UNESCO’s initiative, seeks to foster deeper understanding and collaboration among museums in the region to present interconnected historical narratives.
Museums are at the heart of UNESCO’s mandate. Museums are key actors in heritage preservation and cultural development. Through initiatives such as multinational nominations of intangible cultural heritage, transboundary and serial nominations for World Heritage, which require joint heritage management strategies, UNESCO strives to promote the concept of shared heritage. This approach recognizes that cultural heritage is not static nor confined within national borders; rather, it is shaped by interconnected histories, diverse communities, and evolving interpretations over time.
In August 2025, UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok has planned to organize a sub-regional workshop, titled ‘Shared Heritage: South-East Asian Narratives and Museum Collaboration’. This workshop aligns with UNESCO’s 2015 Recommendation on Museums and Collections, which underscores the role of museums in sustainable development. It also reflects UNESCO’s commitment to supporting museums in addressing contemporary challenges— emphasizing the role of museums in sustainable development, ethical stewardship, and intercultural dialogue.
This workshop brings together historians, professionals from 10 partner museums, and experts from across the region to discuss shared heritage, curatorial approaches, and strategies for public engagement. Through this, we aim to kickstart our Shared Heritage project and build an online exhibition and narratives that reflect the sharedness of the region’s heritage.
The expected outcomes of this workshop are:
- launch event and publicity of the Shared Heritage project,
- establishment of a roadmap for the online exhibition and museum partnerships,
- identification of key thematic narratives for the Shared Heritage Exhibition,
- collaboration among museum partners.
In this regards, UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok is seeking a company or an organization to assist in conceptualizing the artistic components that are vital to the launch event and the project’s outputs afterward and simultaneously coordinating logistical arrangement for museum partners that will join the launch event and the workshop of this project.
