UNESCO invites qualified individual or institutional entities to submit their expression of interest for the preparation of a Model Syllabus for media and information professionals on accurate reporting, creation and sharing of accessible information and media content for people with disabilities using ICT.

The new syllabus will be integrated into the UNESCO Journalism Education Series with a focus on an emerging theme relevant to journalism education, information as well as disability studies globally. Furthermore, the model syllabus will demonstrate a clear link to the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development consisting of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) whose achievement can be hastened by a critical journalism education that explicitly incorporates skills and knowledge concerning people with disabilities.

The final delivery date is 15 November 2017.

The Model Syllabus will follow a structure already applied for other parts of the UNESCO Journalism Education Series and organized into established levels of proficiency. For quality assurance in its content, the Syllabus will be overseen by a committee of established journalism, media and information science practitioners as well as members of civil society working with persons with disabilities and UNESCO staff.  UNESCO will offer the openly licensed and free model syllabus to the educational community to apply, revise and update according to its needs.

The applicant shall have the following qualifications:

• Academic background in journalism and information studies;
• Reference list demonstrating qualifications;
• Knowledge of United Nations and UNESCO’s standard-setting instruments, notably the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD);
• Excellent capacity to draft teaching and learning documents for higher educational institutions.

Interested candidates should send a proposal expressing their interest and motivation for carrying out this work (not more than 7 pages).

The proposal of individual specialist should include:

1. Recent Curriculum Vitae;
2. Reference list demonstrating your qualifications for participating in this possible upcoming solicitation process;
3. Quotation regarding the fees to carry out the work using annexed form (see Annex I), including a provisional timeline;
4. Contact information (full name and address, country, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address, website and contact person).

The proposal of qualified institutional entity should include:

1. Brief presentation of your institution including number of staff, turnover, years in business;
2. Reference list demonstrating your qualifications for participating in this possible upcoming solicitation process (at least two CVs of staff to be involved);
3. Quotation regarding the fees to carry out the work using annexed form (see Annex I), including a provisional timeline;
4. Contact information (full name and address, country, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address, website and contact person).

The Expression of Interest and accompanying documents (max. 10 pages) must be received by UNESCO no later than 24 April 2017, 18.00 p.m. Paris (France) time. Expressions of Interest can be sent by e-mails: i.kasinskaite(at)unesco.org and f.banda(at)unesco.org.
