Celebrating World Radio Day 2021

Since its invention in 1896, Radio has become an integral part of human civilization. As the world has been changing over the past 125 years, so has Radio. In this current unprecedented time of the global COVID-19 pandemic, radio stations around the world have remodeled their programs: teaching students from home while schools are closed, fighting misinformation and fake news, spreading awareness on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as well as connecting people who are staying at home.
As the world is changing and our daily lives and habits are disrupted, Radio provides us with multiple services to exchange, inform and connect.
Keeping pace with the world, the UNESCO Dhaka Office marked World Radio Day 2021 on Saturday, 13 February 2021 with the theme «New World, New Radio», recalling how Radio has become a part of humanity’s history by following the various developments in our society and adapting its services.
For the celebration of this year’s World Radio Day, the UNESCO Dhaka Office collaborated with Community Radio Stations, Development Partners, and youth of Bangladesh online and on the Radio, including through the following activities:

1. Video testimonials from radio listeners and staff working at community radio stations sharing their favorite radio program as well as telling their views of how Radio connects.
