The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was first declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2002 and the origins of this day are rooted in the 2001 Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity which recognises the potential of culture as a means of achieving sustainable development, peaceful coexistence, and international cooperation.
