The National Commission for the Commemoration of the 400th Anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, headed by the King and the Queen of Spain, has been responsible for the program and the coordination of different activities structured in five themes: cultural activities, research, national and international promotion, development of cultural tourism and heritage. Different ministries and institutions have participated in this National Commission (AC/E: Acción Cultural Española -the public entity responsible for promoting Culture and the Spanish heritage and the management of commemorations-, AECID -the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation-, the Cervantes Institute…) as well as regional and local entities (notably, the town of Alcalá de Henares, Cervantes’ birthplace). This commemoration has counted so far with more than 490 projects and activities, both at a national and an international level. Among them, the following ones are worthy of special attention : the exhibition organized by the National Library of Spain and AC/E entitled “Miguel de Cervantes – from life to myth (1616‐2016)”, visited by 78,012 people, or the exhibition organized by the Cervantes Institute “Quixotes around the world”, which just in Madrid welcomed 20,067 visitors.
