Commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes

The National Commission for the Commemoration of the 400th Anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, headed by the King and the Queen of Spain, has been responsible for the program and the coordination of different activities structured in five themes: cultural activities, research, national and international promotion, development of cultural tourism and heritage. Different ministries and institutions have participated in this National Commission (AC/E: Acci贸n Cultural Espa帽ola -the public entity responsible for promoting Culture and the Spanish heritage and the management of commemorations-, AECID -the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation-, the Cervantes Institute鈥) as well as regional and local entities (notably, the town of Alcal谩 de Henares, Cervantes鈥 birthplace). This commemoration has counted so far with more than 490 projects and activities, both at a national and an international level. Among them, the following ones are worthy of special attention : the exhibition organized by the National Library of Spain and AC/E entitled 鈥淢iguel de Cervantes 鈥 from life to myth (1616鈥2016)鈥, visited by 78,012 people, or the exhibition organized by the Cervantes Institute 鈥淨uixotes around the world鈥, which just in Madrid welcomed 20,067 visitors.
