Communicating effective messaging as we reopen our African economies during COVID-19 (Online webinar 17 November 2020)

The webinar also launched a 3D animated video aimed at supporting COVID-19 communication to at-risk groups. The webinar supported the over-arching goal of UNESCO鈥檚 project to demystify COVID-19 for Africa鈥檚 marginalized communities.

2020 edition of the ITU-UNESCO Regional Digital Inclusion Week for Arab States (25 October to 12 November 2020) In joint collaboration with WHO, UNDP, FAO, UNESCO-RCICT and IOM, UNESCO Cairo and the ITU Regional Arab States in coordination with 6 Arab Governments organized the Week under the week to draw attention to the role of digital inclusion in successfully responding to COVID-19 and realizing the 2030SDGs. More than 1200 participants in the online webinars and trainings. Participants of this activities included  Ministerial Representatives of the Governments of Egypt, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates and Chair of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Information for All Programme (IFAP) .

 

The Week organized under the theme 鈥淪erving the underserved in times of crisis: No one left behind鈥 raised awareness of SDG Goal 9.C and emphasized the urgency for addressing digital inclusion for those most at risk. Some 23 virtual events were held in concert with 27 partners across the Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Latin America. Through its multi-stakeholder approach, the Week brought together Governments, other UN and intergovernmental bodies, civil society, academia, healthcare professionals, the private sector and citizens to share experiences, and develop initiatives for advancing digital inclusion efforts. Capacity-building events such as the Women and Girls鈥 Entrepreneurship Training Program and organized by Egypt鈥檚 MCIT addressed key issues in Egypt鈥檚 knowledge society and knowledge economy namely removal of the gender digital divide and the ethical dimensions of AI. The Week raised awareness, strengthened collaboration amongst stakeholders and advanced efforts to combat all forms of digital exclusion.
