In cooperation with the Central Directorate of Irrigation Improvement at the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt, UCO/IHP is supporting the implementation of a Community Awareness and Capacity Building Campaign on sustainable water management for Water Associations in at least 3-4 governorates in Egypt. The project aims to raise awareness among Water Associations and individual famers of the benefits of modernizing their irrigation systems and on the financially efficient mechanisms to achieve such modernization. The programme includes the development of demonstration sites as well as series of public interaction activities to be conducted by experts from the Ministry and pioneering farmers and associations. It is worth mentioning that Water conservation awareness at rural areas is already included in UCO workplan within UNPDF/Planet group and in line with water conservation national plan of Egypt.
