Countdown to the first-ever International Heritage Symposium begins

On 15th January 2020, the first International Heritage Symposium and Exhibition (IHSE) will begin in New Delhi, at the National Museum. Ms. Junhi Han (Chief of Culture at UNESCO New Delhi) will be one of the panelists of the 7-panel discussions that will take place on 15 and 16 January. Simultaneously, an exhibition will be held at the National Museum which will go on for one month.

The initiative is jointly organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST), and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister of Science, Technology and Earth Sciences will be the Chief Guest and Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, Hon’ble Minister of Culture will be the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

For the first time, communities from diverse disciplines, such as social sciences, technology and culture  that are engaged in conservation, preservation and management of World Heritage in physical and digital space, will gather to dialogue and share experiences.

The event is to showcase how technology can contribute to safeguarding cultural heritage. The panel discussion that I will participate in will center on ‘reconstruction’ which has become an important issue, due to unprecedented destruction of heritage sites in armed conflicts over the last decade. As a matter of fact, the ‘IHSE 2020’ has been developed around the urgent need of preserving India’s rich cultural heritage for future generations.
