Cox’s Bazar Education Support Programme
A UN multi-year joint programme of UNESCO, UNHCR and UNICEF titled Cox’s Bazar Education Support Programme funded by Education Cannot Wait (ECW) started its implementation from 13 November 2018 with a launch in a learning camp in Cox’s Bazar.
UNESCO, partnering with Plan International in Bangladesh, is implementing and contributing to the two outcomes in this programme: (i) Community Engagement (Outcome3, Output 3.1, Activity 3.1.1); and (ii) System strengthening (Outcome 4, Output 4.2, Activity 4.2.1).
An orientation workshop on UNESCO components is scheduled on Wednesday, 24 April 2019 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Conference Hall of the Office of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Cox’s Bazar. Mr. Md. Kamal Hossain, Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner, Cox’s Bazar, will grace the orientation workshop as Chief Guest while Mr. Shafiul Alam, District Primary Education Officer (DPEO), Cox’s Bazar will preside over the orientation workshop.
The aim of the orientation workshop is to share the key aspects and implementation strategies of the programme and to explore the strategies of multi-stakeholder partnership. Interested partners will then be asked to support the contextualization of a parenting education package as well as a gender and crisis sensitive education planning and management training package. This is an important opportunity for education partners to work together with government on strengthening the resilience of the education system.
Gender equality is one key support in this programme. UNESCO will ensure the gender equality throughout its programme planning, implementation and monitoring. More specifically, in delivering community-based parenting education, fathers’ roles in child rearing and in taking care of pregnant mothers will be emphasized. In capacity building on gender and crisis-sensitive planning and coordination, participation of women and girls in educational activities will be highlighted.
UNESCO, UNHCR and UNICEF have regular coordination meetings to review the updates, reporting mechanism and for better coordination at implementation level. The updates are also shared in the regular meetings of Cox’s Bazar Education Sector who have provided coordination support to this programme.
