Designation of Ho Chi Minh as member of Global Network of Learning City

"Ho Chi Minh City appreciates becoming an official member of UNESCO's Global Learning Cities Network. This is an important step forward, affirming our commitment to lifelong learning and sustainable development. We are ready for the journey towards a future where every citizen is a digital citizen, a global learning citizen."
Participating the inscription ceremony, the Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Vice Minister of Ministry of Education and Training, congratulated the authorities and people of Ho Chi Minh City:
鈥淭his is an important milestone in the journey toward building a learning society for the country. More importantly, it serves as a model for other cities in the country to do the same in the fulfilment of the national movement for lifelong learning for all.鈥
Following the handing over of the certificate to the authorities, Mr Jonathan Baker 鈥渃ommended Ho Chi Minh City for taking up actions to foster a culture of learning, which contributes to achieving inclusive and equitable education for all. Your efforts in this sense have been recognized by UNESCO through today鈥檚 designation.鈥
The city then presented how their commitment would be translated into a specific action plan, for building a learning city in 2024-2030 period as per UNESCO鈥檚 standards and criteria. Specific action points will require collective synergy from different actors at provincial and central level.
The UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities is an international policy-oriented network providing inspiration, know-how and best practices, managed by UNESCO鈥檚 Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL). There are 356 cities inscribed, including 5 in Vietnam. Of those 2 were designated in 2024, including HCMC.
