The Director-General meets with the high level officials of Bosnia and Herzegovina

On 3 July, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, met with the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Mr Mladen Ivani膰 and the representatives of the two other members of the Presidency, H.E. Mr Dragan Covic and H.E. Mr Bakir Izetbegovic.

The Director-General noted with great satisfaction the excellent cooperation between UNESCO and Bosnia and Herzegovina and expressed her commitment to further strengthen engagement of the Organization towards achievement of common objectives in the fields of culture, education and science.

She exchanged with the Chairman of the Presidency about the promotion and preservation of rich and diverse cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina and enhancement of intercultural dialogue and reconciliation were the basis of their discussions. The Director-General emphasized the achievements of UNESCO in these fields and highlighted the important role that Bosnia and Herzegovina could play at regional level.

She commended the efforts of Bosnian and Herzegovina as regard the safeguarding of the country鈥檚 intangible cultural heritage which resulted with the inscription of the first elements from Bosnia and Herzegovina Zmijanje embroidery to the Representative list of intangible heritage and she officially handed to the Chairman of the Presidency the certificate in the inscription. 

The Director- General also commended the development of the joint trans-boundary project of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia that resulted with the common nomination of Ste膰ci 鈥 Medieval Tombstones to the World heritage list to UNESCO.

The Director-General also met the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Mr. Denis Zvizdi膰.

She underlined the progress made by UNESCO in its efforts towards recognition of culture for sustainable development in the framework of the post-2015 Agenda, and thanked the authorities for their cooperation during the national consultations on the role of Culture for Development for the post-2015 Agenda.

The Director- General exchange with the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, on UNESCO action in fighting intentional destruction of Cultural Heritage in Iraq and Syria.

H.E. Mr. Denis Zvizdi膰, agreed with the Director-General on the essential role of Culture for development and said that 鈥渢he door of his Cabinet鈥 will be always open for activities and projects of UNESCO in the country.

Both the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Mr Mladen Ivani膰  and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina , H.E. Mr. Denis Zvizdi膰, expressed their great appreciation for the work and cooperation with UNESCO and thanked the Director-General for attending the important celebration in Mostar.
