The Director-General Meets the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria

On Wednesday, 7 August 2013, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova met with H.E. Mr. Kristian Vigenin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Minister Vigenin confirmed Bulgaria's support for the candidacy of Irina Bokova for a second term as Director-General, underlining that she assumed leadership of the Organization in a challenging period of its history and has been able to steer it successfully forward despite financial difficulties.
The activities of the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Southeast Europe, opened in Sofia in 2012, featured prominently among the topics of discussion. Irina Bokova and Minister Vigenin agreed that the Center, the first of its kind in Europe, provides a strong platform for deepening understanding and for promoting good neighborliness among the countries of the region, which share a common cultural heritage.
The Director-General also met with the President, Prime Minister and Minister of Culture of Bulgaria.
