E-learning training on Handicap, knowledge and ICT launched at UNESCO
An e-learning open access training for professionals, families and others working with people with disabilities launches at UNESCO Headquarters on September 18.
Many practitioners and support staff lack of training in their daily work with persons with disabilities. To respond to this need, UNESCO supports the eLeSI Consortium for social inclusion. The eLeSI project is an e-Learning course for teachers, families, and practitioners working with people with learning disabilities, autism spectrum conditions and/or mental health problems.
It provides one generic training module and three specialized modules, each one focusing on a specific age group, covering the person’s development steps and life-course approach (0-3 years; 4-16 years; 16 years +). The content of the different modules were developed by the University of Chester (UK), University of Mons (Belgium) and INS HEA (France).
After the launch, the online training will be available on free access for teachers and other professionals working with children and youth with disabilities. The e-learning system allows the learner to go through the training at their own pace from any location.
Based on the on the main principles of the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities (2006), the training facilitates the acquisition of knowledge regarding the origin and possible consequences of disabilities and/or disorders, it helps people to learn about the factors which may support, or conversely impede, social inclusion.
The training is currently available in French, English, Spanish and Romanian
