The studios of Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN) hosted the stage for the award ceremony of the third edition of Elige Innovar 2022: Premio a la Innovación Docente. At the event, representatives of the 10 winning teams from different regions of Chile presented their educational innovation projects that have a positive impact on their communities.

Sustainable irrigation projects with 3D printed devices, mechanical workshops led by students, robotics applied to groups of students with special needs, support for mental health, environmental protection, financial education in a recreational way and workshops on innovation and new technologies from Patagonia; these are part of the initiatives promoted by the winning educational teams, where diversity, collaborative work and the use of local potential are key.

For Fernanda Mansilla, Coordinator of Elige Innovar, these projects are a reference of the work in educational innovation that is currently being developed in educational communities throughout the country and that are transforming education. In addition, they put their students at the center as protagonists, together with their teachers, in the teaching-learning process.

"The transformation of the system requires that we learn from these 10 teachers and educational communities. We need more than ever these experiences that change the way we understand and live education. The school is the place where we are integrally formed because educational innovation is with learning and emotions, and arises from great collaborative work" stated Fernanda Mansilla.

Francisca Medeiros, director of DaleProfe, an organization that joined Elige Innovar since its first edition, affirms that "teachers are the great protagonists that can make a transformation in education, they have an entrepreneurial vocation and have chosen to contribute all their energy and commitment to their educational communities. That is why we believe it is important to recognize them, value their creativity and provide them with tools to continue daring to seek innovative solutions to address the challenges they face every day".

Likewise, Martín Cáceres, Director of the Innovation Center of the Ministry of Education, states that initiatives such as Elige Innovar are of interest and are aligned with the impetus that the Chilean State seeks to give, to guarantee a quality education and that with innovation, they can break down barriers and conquer the challenges faced by the country's educational communities.

"As a ministry we are working on the great challenges of educational systems, with an emphasis on student attendance, learning gaps and socioemotional well-being. The experiences we are highlighting through the Elige Innovar recognition seek to show how educational communities address these challenges through innovation. For us it is essential to recognize and promote the tremendous work done by the teaching teams, since they provide many of the answers that we must address as a system", says Cáceres.

Education and technology

For the second consecutive year, Elige Innovar brings the "Digital Imagination" category, promoted by the VTR Foundation and which seeks to recognize and support initiatives which use technology as a tool to strengthen the educational process through innovation. In addition to using technological resources as a bridge for collaboration and the development of alternatives which transform realities.

Cyntia Soto, Sustainability Manager and Executive Director of the VTR Foundation, said: "I am very happy to have participated today, it was exciting to be able to learn in detail about each of the projects, listen to the teachers talk with the passion they do, about their initiatives and how this is improving the quality of learning in the classroom and improving the lives of communities. For us at the VTR Foundation, the democratization of access to information and knowledge is very important. We believe that technology is a tool which allows you to know, learn and educate yourself and, in this context, what Elige Educar is doing is very fundamental for us and we want to continue to support them in this wonderful project, Elige Innovar".

This award ceremony was attended by Antonio Briones, Head of Coexistence at the Emilia Lascar Elementary School and leader of the "Emilia TV" project, which was crowned winner of the Digital Imagination category of the second edition of Elige Innovar.

This project allowed the Emilia Lascar School to win the Innovation category of the Best School Prizes, organized by T4 Education. Allowing them to be ranked as the most innovative school in the world in 2022.
