Empowering South-South Cooperation: 9th Malaysia Funds-In-Trust Steering Committee Meeting

The Malaysia UNESCO Cooperation Programme (MUCP), through the Malaysia-Funds-In-Trust (MFIT), organized the 9th MUCP/MFIT Steering Committee Meeting on 3 November 2020 via Teams.  The meeting was co-chaired by YBhg. Datuk Yusran Shah Mohd Yusof, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education Malaysia in his capacity as the Vice President of the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM) and Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director of UNESCO office in Jakarta. The composition of the Steering Committee includes Mr. Shigeru Aoyagi, Director of UNESCO office in Bangkok, Mr. Mohammad Sanusi Abdul Karim, Secretary-General of the Malaysian NATCOM, Ms. Jessica Jeavons, Chief of Section of the Bureau of Strategic Planning (BSP), UNESCO, Mr. Salvatore Mineo, Programme Specialist from BSP UNESCO, and Mr. Ahmadul Mokhtar Mohd Hayani, Executive Secretary of the Malaysian NATCOM. The meeting was also joined by the Permanent Delegation of Malaysia to UNESCO and Project Officers from the UNESCO offices.

The annual meeting discussed and reviewed on current ongoing and recently completed projects under the MUCP/MFIT framework. In general, the steering committee agreed for the results, tools, output, and best practices achieved through the MUCP/MFIT framework should be disseminated to the public, to encourage South-South Cooperation. The MUCP/MFIT framework was initiated in 2009 and with a budget of US$9 million, the programme has mobilized at least 31 Malaysian Institutions, 103 Implementation Partners, 28 International Implementation Partner Organizations, 15 UNESCO Offices, participation from 87 countries, and the involvement of 6,780 people across Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and beyond.鈥
