Exhibition Walkthrough: "Lifelong Learning for All - Empowering individuals, transforming societies"

Lifelong learning is crucial for alleviating poverty and hunger, combating the climate crisis, fostering peaceful societies, and transforming our future. Yet, despite efforts to meet , a global learning crisis persists, with 250 million children out of school, 765 million adults lacking basic literacy, and fewer than 5 per cent of adults accessing learning opportunities. Recent summits, including the Transforming Education Summit and the SDG Summit 2023, highlighted the urgent need for decisive action to ensure inclusive, equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Held on the margins of the HLPF, this exhibition, entitled Lifelong learning for all – empowering individuals, transforming societies, will highlight the pivotal role of lifelong learning in achieving the SDGs. It recognizes lifelong learning as a human right and a public good. Through powerful testimonials from political leaders and inspiring stories from learners and educators around the world, the exhibition reveals how lifelong learning has empowered societies and individuals to overcome adversity, tackle climate action, drive sustainable development and contribute to peaceful societies.
This exhibition is jointly organized by UNESCO and the Group of Friends for Education and Lifelong Learning and will be displayed at the South Wall of the UN Secretariat from July 8th to 20th. The official walkthrough will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 2:45 to 3:15 PM.
