Gaia Education Design for Sustainability- Accelerating Solutions at Local Level

Gaia Education is launching its dynamic Design for Sustainability e-learning programme in October to be conducted in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Drawing on the expertise developed in a network
of some of the most successful community and transition projects globally, the virtual course is based on the four core pillars of the Ecovillage Design Curriculum: the social, worldview, ecological and economic dimensions of sustainability.
Gaia Education Design for Sustainability (GEDS) qualify students of all ages with the appropriate skills and analytical tools to design a society which uses energy and materials with greater efficiency, distributes wealth fairly, and strives to eliminate the concept of waste. Students become sustainability designers, taking active roles in transitioning their existing communities, institutions and neighbourhoods, to more sustainable patterns of production and consumption, as well as leading more joyful, meaningful and healthier lives.
Gaia Education offers state-of-the-art study guides, training manuals, books, webinars, presentations and a quarterly newsletter to facilitate the delivery of on-line and on-site transformational learning opportunities for accelerating solutions at local level.
GEDS E-learning aims to create a pool of competent, informed sustainability design practitioners with the digital literacy needed to work in teams across geographic boundaries to design and act on viable alternatives combining the best of traditional, place based wisdom, with appropriate technologies and innovation to meet human needs, everywhere, within the limits of the natural cycles that sustain all life on Earth.
Course Duration & Reading Hours: One academic year, from October to August; 400 hours total, 80 hours per design dimension + 80 hours for the Design studio; modules may be taken as a whole or separately.
Gaia Education is an active member of the UNESCO GAP Priority Group 5: Accelerating Change at Local Level.
