Gender Equality Studies and Training programme

OPEN CALL FOR NOMINATIONS UNTIL 14 MARCH 2022

The Gender Equality Studies and Training programme (GR脫 GEST) is a 5-month long postgraduate diploma programme (30 ECTS) at the University of Iceland. The programme operates with GR脫, Centre for Capacity Development, Sustainability and Societal Change under the auspices of UNESCO. The programme is targeted at junior professionals from low and middle income countries, as well as from conflict or post-conflict societies, working towards enhancing gender equality within their organization and community. Every year, 20-25 young professionals are selected to attend the programme. To date, 172 individuals from 31 countries have completed the GEST programme.

When does it start?

The 2023 GEST programme will run from early January to end of May 2023 in Reykjav铆k, Iceland and consists of six inter-disciplinary modules (5 ECTS each).

Admitted fellows are provided with a full scholarship to attend the programme, which includes flights, visa costs, accommodation on campus and a daily allowance.

Who are we looking for?

  • have at least one university degree at BA/BS/BEd level
  • have at least 2 years of professional experience relevant to the enhancement of gender equality
  • are fluent in both spoken and written English
  • are junior professionals or young researchers*
  • have leadership skills and are in a position to be agents of change
  • are committed to enhancing gender equality
  • are nationals and residents in low or middle income countries, or from conflict/post-conflict societies

*Priority is given to individuals younger than 35 years old

How to apply:

Step 1: As a young professional interested in the programme, you will require a nomination submitted by your superior at the organization that is your current place of work, by 14 March 2022. The nomination form is available on and submitted through the GEST website.

Step 2: In late March, qualified nominees will be asked to submit an individual application.

Step 3: Selected applicants are invited to participate in an interview.

Selected fellows are offered a placement in August 2022.
