Global Education for All Meeting looks for ways to accelerate progress towards Education for All
Government ministers, United Nations organizations, civil society partners and donor groups are evaluating progress towards the provision of quality Education for All (EFA), at a three-day meeting at UNESCO’s Paris Headquarters this week. The participants are tasked with exploring new strategies to address EFA challenges and to seek commitments towards and beyond 2015, the target date set for achieving the six Education For All goals established by over 160 nations in 2000.
The President of Togo, Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBE, the Consort of the Emir of Qatar and UNESCO Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education Sheikha Moza bint Nasser al Missned and UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti Michaelle Jean joined UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, at the formal opening ceremony of the event on the evening of 21 November.

Debates and discussions over the three days will be based on the findings and recommendations of the recently launched 2012 EFA Global Monitoring Report, which focused this year on youth skills.

Both of these major studies show that while there has been significant progress towards Education for All goals over the past decade, there are still major gaps to be filled to achieve the movement’s objectives.
