How can violence against women be tackled? (Spotilight Initiative)
Violence against women is one of the most widespread human rights violations.
It has many forms including physical and sexual violence, female genital mutilation and child marriage. The long-term effects on the survivors are severe.
To raise awareness on the subject, Al Jazeera invited the Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed; the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen; and the South Africa Rugby captain, Siya Kolisi, for a especial episode of Inside Story that is airing this week. During the show, the participants talked about the issue of violence against women and girls, the spikes in violence related to COVID-19, and specifically Spotlight Initiative.
