Ibero-American Justice Systems get together to debate SDG16
听

Strengthening the Rule of Law and Human Rights to Achieve Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies is the core thematic of a high-level event to examine the role of justice, security and human rights systems in achieving SDG 16, which will take place on 8th July 2019 at the Trusteeship Council of the United Nations.
Overview
A transforming vision of society places the human being as the centre of attention and action. In July 2019, the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) will review, among others, SDGs 16 and 4. Their central theme is to empower people and ensure inclusion and equality.
This provides an opportunity to design a space for heads of the Justice Systems (Judicial Branches, Attorney General 虂s Offices, Public Defenders, Ministries of Justice and International Courts) of the Ibero-American region to discuss their role in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, particularly from SDG16.
Objectives
1. Bring together a growing coalition of international justice sector organizations that implement SDG16+ and that defend peace, justice and inclusion.
2. Strengthen the commitment of justice systems to the full implementation of SDG16+.
3. Present the innovative strategies and lessons learned from Ibero-America and the Caribbean that explain and demonstrate in a concrete way how judicial systems can promote progress, both in SDG16+ and in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Format and Participants:
The event will be structured as an interactive activity. It will consist of three segments:
1. High-Level opening session;
2. Sessions with a panel of invited experts to present successful experiences that support the implementation of the objectives for SDG16+ and new strategies towards the realization of SDG16;
3. Closing session
This event is organized by:
The Inter-American Court of Human Rights, the Ibero-American Judicial Summit, the Conference of Ministers of Justice of Ibero-America Countries (COMJIB), the Ibero-American Association of Attorney Generals (AIAMP) and the UNDP; with the support of the Global Alliance for SDG 16, the Rule of Law Unit of the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary General, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Ibero-American General Secretariat, the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, the Inter-American Association of Public Lawyers (AIDEF) and the Government of Sweden.
