Though new technology, like an online platform, can be a daunting challenge for the inexperienced, the supervisors involved with the project are excited and enthusiastic.

The BATT project builds upon the success of the collaboration between UNESCO and the QRTA for the preceding teacher professional development project that was designed to address the educational challenges experienced by students and teachers in Jordan’s public schools as a result of the aftermath of the Syrian conflict and the consequential refugee crisis in Jordan. The impetus for the new BATT project is motivated by the need to enhance the materials and ideologies of the initial project, digitalize and create an on-line teacher professional development platform, incorporate a specialized science and math component and reach a wider audience of teachers within Jordan.

Five supervisors participated in the initial introductory meeting, held on February 3^rd, expressing their interest in online training by noting that the approach, “surpasses limiting factors of time and space for learners.”  70 teachers, principals, and other education personnel attended a subsequent meeting on February 9^th.

Prior to the BATT, the supervisors and teachers had no exposure to online learning methods. Supervisors described using Skype to lecture, and blogging as the extent of their experience with online education and training. The BATT uses video modules, online-collaboration using discussion boards, and face-to-face training to provide a combination of support that is both convenient and easy to use for teachers. Though the approach is novel, the consensus among the supervisors was that the BATT is convenient, innovative, and necessary to improve the quality of education in Jordan.
