Internship: Man and Biosphere Programme (UNESCO Nairobi)

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
Eastern Africa is rich in biodiversity, home to unique ecosystems like the savannas, tropical forests, and highland regions that support diverse flora and fauna. However, climate change threatens this biodiversity through rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, and extreme weather events, leading to habitat loss, species migration, and increased human-wildlife conflict. Deforestation, land degradation, and unsustainable agricultural practices further exacerbate these challenges. Conservation efforts, including ecosystem restoration, Indigenous knowledge integration, and climate-resilient policies, are crucial for safeguarding biodiversity. Strengthening community-based conservation and sustainable land management can enhance resilience and ensure the long-term survival of Eastern Africa’s rich ecological heritage
