Irina Bokova Validates a Postcard Dedicated to UNESCO

In Sofia on 23 July, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, and the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications of Bulgaria, Ivaylo Moskovski, validated a special postcard issued by the Ministry, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Organization. The card depicts Bulgarian cultural monuments inscribed on UNESCO鈥檚 World Heritage list.
The seal of validation was placed in the presence of parliamentarians, diplomats and philatelists.
"I am very happy that we celebrate the 70th anniversary of UNESCO in Bulgaria", said Irina Bokova recalling the importance of preserving cultural heritage in the face of growing pressures.
"Today as cultural monuments are purposefully and systematically destroyed, UNESCO is trying to show why civilization and the influence of different cultures are important in today's globalized world", Irina Bokova added. 鈥淏ulgaria is home to a wealth of cultural and natural heritage,鈥 she said expressing hope that by the time another stamp is dedicated to UNESCO, more Bulgarian sites will be added to the global list of World Heritage sites.
Minister Ivaylo Moskovski thanked UNESCO and the Director-General personally for her support and commitment to the safeguarding of the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage.
