Just launched: Knowledge Platform for Youth Employment in the Mediterranean

On 15 July 2019, on the occasion of  UNESCO launched the Youth Employment in the Mediterranean .

The platform is one of the key components of which promotes the relevance, quality and image of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the South Mediterranean region, and is funded by the European Union.

The project supports 8 countries in developing robust skills development systems with the aim to stimulate youth employment and entrepreneurship in the region, which suffers from high unemployment, especially among youth.

The regional platform was established to strengthen the collaboration across the countries in the region in assessing and anticipating skills needs and to foster peer-learning, knowledge-sharing of best practices and effective governance of skills anticipation systems.

The platform, builds on the UNESCO-UNEVOC network and YEM’s partnerships with relevant institutions and stakeholders. It will allow for further exchanges among key actors in the region to deepen the understanding of different policy drivers and emerging trends to avoid skills mismatch. Particular focus will be placed on green and digital economies.

The project falls under the European Neighbourhood policy and is in alignment with the UNESCO Strategy for TVET (2016-2021) that prioritizes inclusive policy dialogue, the reinforcement of TVET stakeholders’ capacities, and the improvement of skills anticipation systems in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goal on Education.
