Little Ecologists

To educate young children about the environment and empower them by teaching good habits for the planet, Marie Barbezieux Rousselle launched a French-language extracurricular programme known as Little Ecologists. Either online or at local schools, these fun eco-lessons and workshops are based on three programmes: Arc-en-Ciel, Endangered Species, and the Wonders of the World. In each class, there is one complementary spot for a student from a disadvantaged background.
Through a combination of reading, art and crafts and quizzes, children learn more about nature and start adopting more climate-friendly habits. “During the programme, we talk a lot about reducing plastics, composting, limiting food waste and the amount of water we use, and switching off lights,” explains Marie Barbezieux Rousselle.
The Little Ecologists workshops began in New York, and then made their way to Vermont and North Carolina, before hopping over the Atlantic to France (Lorraine and Paris) and even Australia.
In the next few years, the team hopes to develop the programmes in English and Spanish as well.
