Massive investment in teachers needed to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4

New projections released by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) on the eve of the UN summit show that massive teacher shortages will continue to deny millions of children the right to primary education without renewed action.
The new global education goal, SDG 4 which is at the heart of the Education 2030 Agenda, calls for 鈥渋nclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all鈥. Realising this goal is critical to achieving all the global development goals.
To make SDG Goal 4 a reality massive investment in recruiting, supporting, and empowering teachers is needed. A call to this end will be made by UNESCO and its partners on the occasion of World Teachers鈥 Day on 5 October.
