Meeting with the Prime Minister of Norway

On 27 March, UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, met with the Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg, at UNESCO Headquarters.
The Director-General thanked the Prime Minister for Norway’s unwavering support to UNESCO, both financially and politically, and commended the country’s leadership in education around the world.
The Prime Minister stressed that education is fundamental priority for Norway, not only at a national level, but also as part of its foreign policy. She reiterated her country’s keen interest in strengthening its cooperation with UNESCO to promote girls’ education, notably in post-conflict areas. The Director-General and the Prime Minister concurred in this regard on the importance of education in preparing young generations towards peaceful transition.
The Director-General and the Prime Minister also expressed interest in working together in ensuring the sustainability of the oceans. The Director-General praised Norway’s leadership in this area and underlined UNESCO’s specific role among UN agencies with its Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and its wide network of scientific experts.
