Mexico hosts 8th Policy Dialogue Forum of the Teacher Task Force for Education 2030

The quality of an education system is only as good as the quality of its teachers and the quality of its teaching.

The key role of teachers in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 is on the agenda of the International Teacher Task Force鈥檚 (TTF) annual meeting and Policy Dialogue Forum, which will gather 300 national and international policy-makers, researchers, representatives of intergovernmental organizations, NGO鈥檚 and teachers in Mexico City, Mexico from 15 to 17 March, 2016.

The theme of the event is 鈥淚mplementing the Teacher Target in the Sustainable Development Goal for education and Education 2030.鈥  The teacher target within for education pledges to: 鈥淏y 2030, substantially increase the supply of qualified teachers, including through international cooperation for teacher training in developing countries, especially least developed countries and small island developing States.鈥

Sharing policies, practices and tools

鈥淨ualified, professionally trained, motivated and well-supported teachers are essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,鈥 says Mr Edem Adubra, UNESCO Chief of the Section for Teacher Development and Head of the Secretariat of the International Task Force on Teachers. 鈥淭ogether with policy-makers, researchers and representatives of intergovernmental organizations, NGOs and teachers, we will, over the course of this week, discuss how to orient partnerships to achieve with teachers the objectives to 2030,鈥 he added.

The main focus of the event will be on sharing relevant policies, practices and tools among international key stakeholders with a view to understanding, implementing and monitoring the teacher-related target.

Discussions will be organized around four sub-themes:  

  • Teacher education
  • Teaching and learning
  • Financing teaching and teacher development
  • Monitoring the teacher target

The forum is preceded on 12 March by a meeting to discuss technical assistance using the to support TTF member countries (with invited experts only).

On 14 March there is the annual meeting of the TTF and of its Steering Committee who will take important decisions regarding the reorientation of the partnership to respond to the SDG and Education 2030 Agenda.

Four pre-forum thematic events will be organized on topics including inclusion and equity in teacher policy and practices; Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and distance education for teacher development; teacher management in fragile states, and early childhood education teachers and facilitators.
