Namibia to host regional meeting on underwater cultural heritage protection
Namibia will host a regional meeting on the protection of in Africa from 10-11 March 2021. The country’s Minister of Education, Arts and Culture Honourable Ester Anna-Lisa Nghipondoka is expected to officially open the meeting.
The two-day virtual meeting is part of UNESCO’s continued efforts and commitment to improve and enhance Member States’ capacities in protecting their underwater cultural heritage. Participants will include Directors, leading archaeologists, senior cultural heritage experts, historians and/or conservators working within governmental institutions and cultural heritage authorities from across Africa.
The meeting will share best practices and ideas on underwater cultural heritage protection. It will also promote cooperation in underwater archaeology.
UNESCO is organising the meeting in partnership with the Namibia National Commission for UNESCO and the Namibian Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture.
