New online course on teaching the Holocaust and other genocides launched in Argentina

The Ministry of Education of Argentina, in partnership with UNESCO, has launched a new online course on the history of the Holocaust and other genocides for education policy-makers. Entitled Teaching about the recent past in schools: The Holocaust and Genocides of the Twentieth Century, the course will take place from 3 October to 15 December 2015.
The course which is open to all countries participating in the UNESCO Network for Education about the Holocaust and other genocides and to education managers of all regions of Argentina, aims to build the capacity of education authorities to introduce the history of genocide into their education systems and to familiarize educators with how to present a recent past characterized by atrocities.
The course was designed by the Education and Memory Unit of the Ministry of Education of Argentina and will consist of a series of online conferences and virtual workshops moderated by prominent Argentinean historians and educators. This initiative is part of UNESCO’s efforts to promote Holocaust education in Latin America, notably through the UNESCO Network for Education about the Holocaust and other genocides. The network is composed of focal points representing the ministries of education of Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
