Norway supports UNESCO Action Plan for Iraq

On 4 December 2014, UNESCO and Norway signed an agreement through which Norway will provide around USD 170,000 to support the UNESCO Action Plan for Iraq, to protect its built and movable heritage and fight against illicit trafficking of cultural property.

The Action Plan focuses on monitoring, communication, awareness-raising and technical assistance to mitigate risks of further destruction and looting of cultural heritage. It also includes measures to more effectively fight against the illicit trafficking of cultural property, in cooperation with several stakeholders, including national and international organizations, humanitarian relief workers in the field, art dealers, international museums and law enforcement authorities.

This new grant from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is an additional contribution to the current Programme Cooperation Agreement (see previous )
