Obituary: Dr. Moamer Eltayeb Ali Mohammed
Dr. Moamer Eltayeb Ali Mohammed, Dean Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries, Red Sea University, in Sudan, passed away on Monday, 18th February, in Port Sudan. He held a PhD in Environmental Studies, by Institute of Environmental Studies, University of Khartoum, Sudan a MSc in Environmental Studies, and a B.Sc. (Honours), Second Class Division one in Marine Science & Fisheries, Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Red Sea University. Port Sudan, Sudan.
Dr. Moamer Ali was a distinguished scientist and lecturer internationally recognized by his expertise in marine biology, fisheries and coral reef ecology being member of several relevant Committees and institutional bodies such as the Council of Directors of the Red Sea University, he Technical Committee of Marine Resources Assessment Project, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in the, Red Sea State, Sudan, the Sudanese Environmental Conservation Society, the Environmentalist Society, the Red Sea Environmental Center, the National Intergovernmental Oceanic Commission Sub- Committee, and the Committee on the Protection of Monuments, Red Sea State, among others.
Recently Dr. Moamer Ali contributed as national consultant for the UNESCO Report on Potential Biosphere Reserves in Red Sea and assisted in the coordination of many UNESCO missions to Red Sea and the organization of a National MAB Workshop on March 2018 and was part of the team studying the potential establishment of a marine and coastal UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Red Sea State.
We pay tribute to the invaluable contribution of Dr. Moamer Ali to the development of marine sciences and UNESCO MAB Programme in Sudan and we extend the deepest sympathy to his family, the Red Sea University and his friends.
